The frequent failure of the rains has meant that:
  • crops are not irrigated and fail
  • people have to travel miles to collect water from the nearest well to meet their basic needs.
Generally the people live and earn their income as subsistence farmers selling any excess produce grown after the needs of their family have been addressed. Hence crops failing results in limited food and no income.

In summary there are three inter-linked issues that need to be addressed:

  1. Lack of sufficient good quality water for domestic use and irrigation
  2. Lack of educational facilities (post 11 yrs old)
  3. Lack of medical provision
